Tip: in the Code view press Ctrl+F (⌘F on Mac) to find and replace.
Paste JSON, open a file or load the sample to see the tree.
The Table view needs an array of objects. Select such an array in the tree.
Limits: files up to 100 MB (.json or .json.gz); tree and table up to 10 MB or 1,000,000 nodes. Everything runs in your browser.
Open a .json file or paste JSON, then edit it as a tree, as code or as a table. Errors are highlighted as you type. Everything stays in your browser.
How it works
Open or paste JSON
Drop a .json or .json.gz file, use Open file, paste JSON into the Code view, or start with an empty object.
Edit in any view
Change keys, values and types in the tree, edit cells in the table, or type in the code editor. All views stay in sync.
Save your file
Use Save as, Download or Copy. A draft is kept in this browser until you clear it.
Features
Tree editing with undo
Rename keys, change types and values, add, duplicate, move or delete nodes. Undo and redo cover every change; key order changes only when you click Sort keys.
Live validation
The code editor marks the first error as you type, with line, column and a clear explanation. While the JSON is invalid the tree is read-only, so your text is never lost.
Table mode
Edit an array of objects like a spreadsheet: change cells, add rows and add columns.
Format, minify and find
Format with 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs, minify, sort keys, and find and replace text in the code editor.
Limits & privacy
Files and pasted JSON can be up to 100 MB of code. Tree and table editing work for documents up to 10 MB or one million nodes; larger documents are shown as plain read-only text where format, minify, validate, copy and download still work. Syntax highlighting and live error marks are used up to 5 MB. Files over the limit are rejected before they are read.
Drafts are kept for documents up to 1 MB in this browser’s local storage and are never uploaded. With two tabs open, the last saved draft wins; its time is shown next to the draft switch. Read more on the privacy page.
FAQ
How do I edit a JSON file online for free?
Open or drop the file, change it in the tree, table or code view, then click Save as or Download.
How do I save the edited JSON file?
Save as opens your browser’s save dialog where it is supported (Chrome and Edge on desktop) and otherwise downloads the file. Set the file name in the File name field first.
Can I edit a JSON file on Android or iPhone?
Yes. Open this page in your mobile browser, tap Open file, edit the JSON and tap Download.
Is my JSON uploaded to a server?
No. The editor runs entirely in your browser. The optional draft is stored only in this browser’s local storage, and you can clear it at any time.
Can I edit Docker’s daemon.json here?
Yes. Paste or open the daemon.json file, make your changes, check that it is valid, and copy or download the result back to the server. Only the syntax is checked, not Docker’s settings.
Is there an alternative to editing JSON in the terminal?
If you can copy the file to a computer with a browser, this editor adds a tree, validation and undo. On a server without a browser, a terminal editor is the practical choice.
